Day 2 Beijing (B/L/D)
Morning visit to the Tian An Men Square which is the largest city square in the world, bordered by the Great Hall of the People and Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, then tour the Forbidden City, the complex of imperial palace, which was home to the Emperors for over 500 years. Grand halls and courts gradually give way to more intimate domestic quarters, giving an insight into the pampered isolation of the emperors. Visit to Niujie Mosque which is the oldest Mosque with over one thousand year’s history. Dzohor and Asar prayers here. Shopping at Muslim Super Market which is the only one in Beijing. Today is the highlight of our China tour, the climbing of the Great Wall of China, which was first built in the Warring States period (475-221BC) as a series of earthworks erected by individual kingdoms as a defense against each other as well as from invasions from the north. The present day wall was left from the Ming dynasty. Lunch at a local Muslim restaurant near the Great Wall. Shopping at the Jade and Crystal Shop. Visit to Burning Cream Centre. Day 4 Beijing (B/L/D)
Shopping at the most famous Silk Store, which has many kinds of silk materials with the best quality. Visit the Summer Palace in the morning. Being the largest imperial garden in China, the Summer Palace was first built in the Qing emperor Qianlong’s time in 1751 and burned down in1860 by the French and British army and restored by the Dowager empress Cixi for her own enjoyment. It became a favorite haunt of Cixi, who preferred it to the Forbidden City, and named it Yihe Yuan meaning the garden of health and harmony. After lunch we will visit one of the most famous mosques in this city, the Ming dynasty-built Nan Dou Ya Mosque that has a unique Chinese style with hundreds years of history. Tour Overview

Beijing is a city with 200,000 Muslims and there are over 70 mosques in Beijing. Yinchuan is the capital city of the only Hui (Muslim) Autonomous region with a Muslim population of 1.797 million. Lanzhou is the capital city of Northwest China’s Gansu province while Linxia is considered to be the little Mecca of China; Xian is the ancient capital city of China where the Tang Dynasty emperor Gaozong officially recognized the practice of Islam in 651. Guangzhou is the starting point of the Marine Silk Road where Arabian traders settled down as early as the Tang Dynasty (AD618-AD907). The Guangta Mosque in Guangzhou was recorded to be built in the Tang Dynasty and it is said to be the oldest mosque in China.

This 16 Days China Muslim Experience Tour will take us to visit some of the historical mosques in these cities. In Beijing we will visit the 900 year old Niujie Mosque where we will be able to join afternoon prayer with local Chinese Muslims. In Ningxia we will visit the Najiahu Mosque which was constructed in 1524 during China’s Ming Dynasty. In Xian we will visit the Tang Dynasty built Great Mosque of Xian (built in 742). We will also visit China Hui Culture Park in Yinchuan, The park which comprises a museum of Hui culture, a hall for Hui rituals, a garden of Hui customs and miniatures of famous mosques in China is China's largest park to display traditional culture and customs of Hui ethnic group. We will visit Mosques, Madrassahs and Muslim village in Lanzhou and Linxia, In Guangzhou we will visit the oldest mosque in China, the Guangta Mosque which is said to be built in the Tang Dynasty. In Shanghai we will visit the Songjiang Mosque which is characteristic of Southeast China architecture.

 

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Beijing (D)
Our professional Muslim expert tour guide will pick you up at Beijing capital international airport and transfer you to the hotel. Relax during the remainder of the afternoon and evening to recover from the jet lag. 

Day 02: Beijing (B/L/D)
We will start to explore Beijing from the largest city square in the world; the impressive Tiananmen Square. From there we will enter the "Imperial Palace" known as the Forbidden City to explore its many fascinating halls and pavilions. After lunch and prayer at Niujie Mosque we will visit the Temple of Heaven, the place where the Emperors worshipped the Heaven for good harvests. Today’s shopping stops are the Muslim Supermarket and Traditional Chinese herbal medicine of Tongrentang.

Day 03: Beijing (B/L/D)
Today is the highlight of our China tour, the climbing of the Great Wall of China. In 220 B.C., under Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, sections of earlier fortifications were joined together to form a united defense system against invasions from the north. Construction of the great wall continued up to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), when the Great Wall became the world's largest military structure. Its historic and strategic importance is matched only by its architectural significance. In the afternoon we will visit the Ming Tomb Sacred Way where we will learn the ancient Chinese Fengshui Theory. On the way to the Great Wall, we will make a stop at Bona jade carving factory where we will learn the ancient art of jade carving skills.

Day 04: Beijing/Yinchun by flight (B/L/D)
In the morning we will visit the largest garden in the world, the Summer Palace. The Summer Palace first built in 1750, largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886, is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value. After afternoon prayers at Madian Mosque, we will fly to Yinchuan, the capital city of Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Day 05: Yinchuan (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel we will drive for about 45 minutes to China Hui Culture Park. The park which comprises a museum of Hui culture, a hall for Hui rituals, a garden of Hui customs and miniatures of famous mosques in China is China's largest park to display traditional culture and customs of Hui ethnic group. After lunch we will visit the most famous mosque in Ningxia, the Najiahu Mosque and the Muslim village nearby.

Day 06: Yinchuan/Lanzhou by train (B/L/D)
We will visit the Western Xia Dynasty (1038-1227) Imperial Tombs in the morning. There are a total of nine imperial tombs and 253 lesser tombs (tombs for high ranking officials of the Western Xia Dynasty) scatted east of the Mt. Helan and all those tombs are good examples of once the regional power of Western Xia Dynasty. In the afternoon we will visit the Nanguan Mosque and Ningxia Muslim College. The Nanguan Mosque is endowed with Islamic architectural style that is characterized by grand domes, long tines and arch doors and windows. We will take the night soft sleeper berth to Lanzhou.

Day 07: Lanzhou (B/L/D)
Arrive in Lanzhou early in the morning and transfer to hotel for check-in and breakfast. Lanzhou is the capital city of Northwest China’s Gansu province with a large Muslim population. After lunch we will visit the largest mosque in Lanzhou, the Xiguan Mosque which was recently renovated according to traditional Arabic style. Later on we will visit the Water Wheel Park and Gansu Provincial Museum.

Day 08: Lanzhou/Linxia by driving (B/L/D)
In the morning we will drive to Linxia, a Muslim city nicknamed the Little Mecca of China. Along the way we will pass numerous a mount of Muslim villages with hundreds of thousands of mosques built both traditional Chinese and Arabic style. We will stop at some of the villages to experience the local life and communicate with them about their daily life. Upon arrival in Linxia we will visit Muslim community, Madrassh, Mosques and local Bazaar in the Muslim city of Linxia. 

Day 09: Linxia/Lanzhou/Xian by flight (B/L/D)
Free at leisure in Linxia in the morning. After lunch we will drive directly to Lanzhou to board our flight to the ancient capital city of China, Xian which is also the starting point of world famous Silk Road. From 11th century BC to 907 AD there were 13 Chinese dynasties which built their capital in Xian. The glorious Tang Dynasty (AD618-AD907) witnessed the highlight of Chinese civilization here in Xian. 

Day 10: Xian (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel we will drive for about 45 minutes to the Eighth Wonder of the World, the Terra Cotta Warriors of Emperor Qin Shihuang. This is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world with three exhibition halls, the largest of which is 180 meters by 60 meters, housing the continuing excavation of an army of 8,000 terra-cotta soldiers and horses that guard the tomb of Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of the unified China. It is a stunning exhibition of ancient artifacts that is well laid out and easy to view. In the afternoon, we will visit the most famous mosque in Xian, the Tang Dynasty constructed Great Mosque of Xian (built in 742) and its nearby Muslim community and Bazaar. At night we will enjoy a fantastic Tang Dynasty Stage Show.

Day 11: Xian/Guangzhou by flight (B/L/D)
We will visit the Stone Tablets Museum in the morning. Named by UNESCO as one of the 50 famous museums in the world, the Stone Tablets Museum was built on the site of the original Xian Confucius Temple constructed in the Song Dynasty (AD907-AD1279). This is the best known Museum in China for its collections of Stone Tablets where masterpieces of ancient Chinese calligraphers' work were carved and Confucius classic works are preserved. We will fly to Guangzhou in the afternoon.

Day 12: Guangzhou (B/L/D)
We will visit the Chen Family Temple in the morning. It is now the site of the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. This 100-year-old temple was once the ancestral temple and study of 72 Chen families in Guangdong in the Qing Dynasty. It is now the largest and best preserved and decorated ancient architecture existing in Guangdong Province. Later on we will visit the Memorial Hall of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the symbol of Guangzhou, the Five Ram Statue at Yuexiu Park. After lunch we will visit and pray at the Huaisheng Mosque. Known as Guangta Mosque, this is one of the earliest mosques constructed since Islam came into China in the seventh century. We will also visit the Muslim Sage’s Tomb which looks like an ancient Chinese temple, with walls surrounding its four corners. History recorded that Nabi Muhammad (s.a.w), at the age 57 sent his uncle Wa-ke-su (Sa'd ibn Abi-Waqqas) to Guangzhou. The Muslim Sage’s Tomb was to commemorate Sa'd ibn Abi-Waqqas who died in Guangzhou.

Day 13: Guangzhou/Shanghai by flight (B/L/D)
Fly to Shanghai in the morning. Upon arrival in Shanghai, we will visit the third tallest TV tower in the world; the Oriental Pearl Tower. We will also stroll along the Bund and Nanjing Road to appreciate early 19th century European Style architectures.

Day 14: Shanghai (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel we will visit the Yuyuan Garden, which is characteristic of the architectural style of the Ming dynasty. The highlight of the day is shopping at the Chenghuangmiao Market, a great place to test your bargaining skills. Being the center of silk production of China, a visit to local silk factory can not be missed. We will also visit the Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Xintiandi, which is a newly developed recreation area in Shanghai with old styled buildings. We will visit the Songjiang Mosque in the afternoon.

Day 15: Departure from Shanghai (B)

Day 06: Xian (B/L/D)
We will visit the Stone Tablets Museum in the morning. Named by UNESCO as one of the 50 famous museums in the world, the Stone Tablets Museum was built on the site of the original Xian Confucius Temple constructed in the Song Dynasty (AD907-AD1279). This is the best known Museum in China for its collections of Stone Tablets where masterpieces of ancient Chinese calligraphers' work were carved and Confucius classic works are preserved. In the afternoon, we will visit the most famous mosque in Xian, the Tang Dynasty constructed Great Mosque of Xian (built in 742) and its nearby Muslim community and Bazaar.

Day 07: Departure from Xian (B)

Tour Overview

Beijing is a city with 200,000 Muslims and there are over 70 mosques in Beijing. Yinchuan is the capital city of the only Hui (Muslim) Autonomous region with a Muslim population of 1.797 million. Xian is the ancient capital city of China where the Tang Dynasty emperor Gaozong officially recognized the practice of Islam in 651.

This 9 Days Golden Triangle Muslim Tour will take us to visit some of the historical mosques in these cities. In Beijing we will visit the 900 year old Niujie Mosque where we will be able to join afternoon prayer with local Chinese Muslims. In Xian we will visit the Tang Dynasty built Great Mosque of Xian (built in 742). In Shanghai we will visit the Xiaotaoyuan Mosque which is characteristic of Southeast China architecture.

 

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Beijing (D)
Our professional Muslim expert tour guide will pick you up at Beijing capital international airport and transfer you to the hotel. Relax during the remainder of the afternoon and evening to recover from the jet lag.

Day 02: Beijing (B/L/D)
We will start to explore Beijing from the largest city square in the world; the impressive Tiananmen Square. From there we will enter the "Imperial Palace" known as the Forbidden City to explore its many fascinating halls and pavilions. After lunch and prayer at Niujie Mosque we will visit the Temple of Heaven, the place where the Emperors worshipped the Heaven for good harvests. Today’s shopping stops are the Muslim Supermarket and Traditional Chinese herbal medicine of Tongrentang.

Day 03: Beijing (B/L/D)
Today is the highlight of our China tour, the climbing of the Great Wall of China. In 220 B.C., under Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, sections of earlier fortifications were joined together to form a united defense system against invasions from the north. Construction of the great wall continued up to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), when the Great Wall became the world's largest military structure. Its historic and strategic importance is matched only by its architectural significance. In the afternoon we will visit the Ming Tomb Sacred Way where we will learn the ancient Chinese Fengshui Theory. On the way to the Great Wall, we will make a stop at Bona jade carving factory where we will learn the ancient art of jade carving skills.

Day 04: Beijing/Xian by flight (B/L/D)
In the morning we will visit the largest garden in the world, the Summer Palace. The Summer Palace first built in 1750, largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886, is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value. After afternoon prayers at Madian Mosque, we will fly to Xian, the starting point of the world famous Silk Road.

Day 05: Xian (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel we will drive for about 45 minutes to the Eighth Wonder of the World, the Terra Cotta Warriors of Emperor Qin Shihuang. This is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world with three exhibition halls, the largest of which is 180 meters by 60 meters, housing the continuing excavation of an army of 8,000 terra-cotta soldiers and horses that guard the tomb of Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of the unified China. It is a stunning exhibition of ancient artifacts that is well laid out and easy to view. Back to the city in the afternoon, we will visit Shaanxi History Museum, which houses a large collection of historic and cultural artifacts unearthed in Shaanxi Province.

Day 08: Shanghai (B/L)
After breakfast at hotel we will visit the Yuyuan Garden, which is characteristic of the architectural style of the Ming dynasty. The highlight of the day is shopping at the Chenghuangmiao Market, a great place to test your bargaining skills. Being the center of silk production of China, a visit to local silk factory can not be missed. We will also visit the Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Xintiandi, which is a newly developed recreation area in Shanghai with old styled buildings. We will be free at leiruse in the afternoon.

Day 09: Departure from Shanghai (B)

Day 07: Xian/Kunming by flight (B/L/D)
Fly to Kunming in the morning. Upon arrival we will visit the West Hill and Dragon Gate. West Hill is located west of the Dianchi Lake and extends for more than 40 kilometers at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level. The top of West Hill is the Dragon Gate which is a group of grottoes, sculptures, corridors and pavilions that were hacked from the cliff between 1781 and 1835 by a Taoist monk.

Day 08: Kunming (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel we will drive for about 80 miles to the southeast of Kunming to visit the Stone Forest. The Stone Forest covers an area of 2,670 square kilometers and was formed by karst two million to thirty mullion years ago. The Forest contains peaks, pillars, stalagmites, depressions, underground rivers, and caves. The fantastic stone pinnacles rising abruptly from the ground resemble a huge, dense forest. Back to the city in the afternoon we will visit the Shunchengxiang Mosque and its nearby Muslim district.

Day 9: Kunming/Guilin by flight (B/L/D)
Fly to Guilin in the morning. After visiting Guilin Ancient Mosque in the afternoon we will visit the Reed Flute Cave and the Elephant Trunk Hill. The Reed, Flute Cave got its name from the verdant reeds growing outside it, with which people make flutes. Inside this water-eroded cave is a spectacular world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations created by carbonate deposition. Illuminated by colored lighting, the fantastic spectacle is found in many variations along this 240-meter-long cave.

Day 10: Guilin (B/L/D)
Guilin, a cultural city with a history of over 2,000 years, is world famous for its serene landscapes and mysterious limestone formations mist covered hills and bamboo groves. The region boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and is one of the most photographed areas of China. Li River Cruise for the day. The cruise from Guilin to Yangshou, following an 83 km long belt of strange landforms, is like traveling along a traditional Chinese Painting. You may be also in luck and seeing the ospreys catching fish on the river.

Day 11: Guilin/Guangzhou by flight (B/L/D)
Fly to Guangzhou in the morning. After lunch we will visit and pray at the Huaisheng Mosque. Known as Guangta Mosque, this is one of the earliest mosques constructed since Islam came into China in the seventh century. We will also visit the Muslim Sage’s Tomb which looks like an ancient Chinese temple, with walls surrounding its four corners. History recorded that Nabi Muhammad (s.a..w), at the age 57 sent his uncle Wa-ke-su (Sa'd ibn Abi-Waqqas) to Guangzhou. The Muslim Sage’s Tomb was to commemorate Sa'd ibn Abi-Waqqas who died in Guangzhou.

Day 12: Guangzhou/Shanghai by flight (B/L/D)
We will visit the Chen Family Temple in the morning. It is now the site of the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. This 100-year-old temple was once the ancestral temple and study of 72 Chen families in Guangdong in the Qing Dynasty. It is now the largest and best preserved and decorated ancient architecture existing in Guangdong Province. Later on we will visit the Memorial Hall of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the symbol of Guangzhou, the Five Ram Statue at Yuexiu Park. Fly to Shanghai in the afternoon.

Day 13: Shanghai (B/L/D)

Day 05: Urumqi/Kashgar by flight (B/L/D)
Urumqi is the capital city of Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Today’s ascension to Tianshan Mountain reveals the beautiful Heavenly Lake. We’ll stop at Red Hill on the Urumqi River for a panoramic view of the city and the 9-story hillside Zhenlong Pagoda. We will also visit the Tartar Mosque. Fly to Kashgar, the Urgur capital of Xinjiang after dinner in Urumqi.

Day 06: Kashgar (B/L/D)
In the morning we will visit the largest mosque in Kashgar, the Idkah Mosque and Abakh Hoja Mausoleum. After lunch we will join hundreds of thousands of local Uyghurs for one of the world’s greatest bazaars, the Sunday Great Bazaar of Kashgar. This is a meeting place for all of Xinjiang’s Muslim minorities and their neighbors from Pakistan. Sunday is no day of rest but Karshgar’s busiest, and the town empties as residents and visitors join rivers of arrivals from neighboring areas flowing to the Sunday Great Bazaar.

Day 07: Urumqi/Kashgar by flight (B/L/D)
We will take the morning flight back Urumqi. Upon arrival we will visit the Xinjiang Regional Museum which is famous for its rich collections of silk artifacts, brocades from Eastern Han Dynasty, as well as all kinds of specialized silk-woven items from the Tang Dynasty. In the afternoon we will visit Urumqi International Bazaar.

Day 08: Urumqi/Turpan by coach (B/L/D)
After breakfast we will drive to Turpan which survives with the assistance of karez, covered water channels that bring melt-water from the Tianshan Mountains to the north and west into the Turpan basin. After lunch, we will visit Emin Minaret. This 40 meter-high brick minaret is part of a large mosque, built in 1778. The minaret has an elegant conical shape; its brick laid in patterns that make it looked knitted. Then visit the ancient city of Gaochang which was built of mud and adobe bricks thousands of years ago. The city was abandoned somewhat in history and what are left now are just ruins of the ancient temples, houses, palaces and the old city wall.

Day 09: Turpan/Dunhuang by train (B/L/D)
We will visit another ruins of ancient city, Jiaohe and the underground irrigation system of Karez after breakfast. We will also visit a Uygur family to know Muslim Uygur people’s daily life. After dinner in Turpan we will board soft sleeper train to Dunhuang. Throughout Dunhuang's history of over two thousand years, it has always served as a critical gateway leading to the west due to its unique geographical location at the juncture of Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang. Therefore Dunhuang is one of the most important crossroads on the Silk Road.

Day 10: Dunhuang (B/L/D)
Arrive in Dunhuang early in the morning and transfer to hotel for breakfast. After lunch and prayer at Dunhuang Mosque, we will visit the scenic Singing Sand Dunes, called by Marco Polo the “rumbling sands,” and the Crescent Moon Lake.

Day 11: Dunhuang/Xian by flight (B/L/D)
We will spend the whole morning at the World Heritage Site of Mogao Caves. The Mogao Caves (also known as the Dunhuang Grottoes) boast the largest collection of Buddhist grottoes in existence in China. Many of the 492 grottoes here date back as early as one thousand years ago (covering a period of ten dynasties). The most famous aspect of Dunhuang's grottoes is the murals that feature Buddhist stories, folk culture, farming, hunting as their main themes. Fly to Xian in the afternoon. Xian is the starting point of world famous Silk Road. From 11th century BC to 907 AD there were 13 Chinese dynasties which built their capital in Xian. The glorious Tang Dynasty (AD618-AD907) witnessed the highlight of Chinese civilization here in Xian.
